This project provides structural repairs to Berth 13 to restore deck loading capacity and extend usablelife of structure, repair deteriorated deck sections,and repair piles, caps, beams, deck, and steel reac-tion frame connections to allow continued use ofthe berth. Berth 13 is an open wharf structure water-front facility constructed in the 1940’s consisting ofconcrete piles including previous jacket repairs,concrete wharf deck, and steel reaction frame withtimber decking along the outboard face of the wharfstructure. Total approximate construction area isapproximately 25,000 square feet (SF).
Berth 13 repair work will include both full (1,600 SF) and partial demolition (area to be determined) to various portions of the concrete wharf deck; outage coordination, removal and replacement of utilities in the way of concrete repairs; repairs to the reaction frame; repairs to the landside fascia beam; and repairs to crane rail beams, pile caps, pile jackets and anodes. All demolition and construction activities must prevent debris from entering the river below. Underside wharf deck, pile jacket and anode repairs require the capability to work from barges and other floating platforms; as well as meet strict safety protocols.
