Description
USACE via a contract, operated a groundwater extraction and treatment system to
control and remediate impacted groundwater from the Price Landfill Superfund site (Site)
located in Absecon, New Jersey. Operation of the groundwater treatment plant to recover and treat groundwater began in 2013. The well field consists of 13 shallow extraction wells and 4 deep extraction wells. There are also more than 100 monitoring wells including those at both on- and off-site locations. A sinkhole was observed on Showellton Avenue, Absecon, New Jersey, at the site of a Price Landfill-related soil boring that was performed and closed approximately 15 to 20 years ago. The sinkhole is located within the roadway at the end of the street adjacent to the curb line of 257 Showellton Avenue. The former borehole is in the vicinity of two monitoring wells that were installed at the same time as the borehole.
