Description
Tri-corner hats for the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment “Old Guard” IAW the purchase description (PD).
Material: The hat shall be constructed from Black 3XXX Beaver felt or an equivalent high-quality felt material. The material must be colorfast to prevent fading or color transfer. It must possess sufficient stiffness to allow shaping with steam heat and retain its shape effectively once cooled. Crown: Height: The crown shall measure 4½ inches in height.
Band: The base of the crown shall be encircled by a 1-inch wide black grosgrain ribbon, securely attached and evenly aligned. Brim: Width: The brim shall be 5 inches wide.
Shape: The brim shall be turned up and secured by a black, flat cotton lacing measuring 3/16 inch in width. The lacing must be tacked in place to maintain the brim’s position. 3 Source Selection Information See FAR 2.101 and 3.104
Positioning: When turned up, the brim shall extend beyond the crown by no less than ¼ inch and no more than ½ inch.
Brim Trim: The brim shall be trimmed with a 1-inch wide white grosgrain ribbon. The white grosgrain trim shall be visible with ½ inch showing on the outside edge of the brim and ¼ inch visible on the inside edge.
Lacing Holes: The lacing holes, as annotated in the provided diagrams, must be punched at specified angles in both the crown and brim to ensure uniformity and consistency across all hats.
Hat Alignment and Cockade Placement: The front point of the hat must be centered over the inside corner of the left eye when worn. The cockade shall be positioned directly over the lacing on the left side of the hat, flush with the bottom edge of the white grosgrain trim. The buttonhole for the cockade must be punched 3 inches down from the outside edge of the brim, located between the two sets of lacing holes on the left side.
