Description

1.General

1.1 The mission of the Hershel Woody Williams VAMC is to honor and serve America’s Veterans. The mission of the Imaging Department is to provide the highest quality imaging the service of our veterans in a safe environment.  This acquisition is needed to meet VHA directive 1105.5 Magnetic Resonance Safety.

1.2 Objective

For the contractor to provide a Magnetic Resonance Safety Expert (MRSE) providing the facility Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer (MRSO) and Magnetic Resonance Medical Director (MRMD) with consultation on all MRI safety related questions, issues and requirements.

1.3  Contractor Responsibilities

a. Provides consultation on MR safe imaging of implanted medical devices and provides guidance, calculations and quantification information as needed.

b. Assists in development and maintenance of MR Safety and QA programs.

c. Provides consultation to MRSO and MRMD on the development of MRI protocols to allow safe imaging of patients with MRI conditional implanted devices.

d. Actively participates in the planning, installation, and acceptance of new MR equipment.

e. Serves as the VAMC subject matter expert for root cause analysis or administrative investigations related to MR adverse events.

f. The Contractor, in his or her capacity as the MRSE, will serve as a resource for MRMD or MRSO when needed for consultation to answer MR safety questions/concerns.

g. The MRSE shall attend quarterly Radiation/MRI Safety Committee meetings conducted via MS Teams.

1.4  PERSONNEL QUALIFICATIONS

a. All health physicists performing MRSE services under this contract shall be board certification as a Magnetic Resonance Safety Expert (MRSE) by the American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety.
