Our equipment suppliers are concerned that the KSB Amamix Mixer is incorrectly specified. The plans indicate a single-phase version of the C2222/XDG however this mixer only comes in a 3-Phase configuration. The other concern is that this mixer is far too large for such a small wet well, the equipment supplier states they would need a minimum of 72” diameter while this wet well only specifies 48”. This could result in some serious cavitation, damaging the propeller, creating too much air and throwing water too abruptly throughout this system. Would you allow a different set-up provided by the manufacturer that would better fit this application?

Answer: Regarding the concern that the KSB Amamix mixer requires three-phase power while only single-phase power is currently provided: a micro-drive shall be installed to convert the available single-phase supply, allowing the mixer to operate properly within the system. The KSB Amamix mixer remains the correct unit specified for this design.

Regarding the concern that the KSB Amamix mixer may be too large for the designed wet well: this configuration was reviewed between the design team and the supplier. Per the supplier, this arrangement has been successfully implemented on numerous projects with similar wet well dimensions. Based on this information, it is Hydra’s understanding that the proposed mixer will not cause the issues that were of concern.

The specified ZSGV pump may be substituted with the ZOGV model, which is suitable for single-phase power. This substitution can be evaluated during the shop drawing review.

Overall, the concerns raised are appreciated and have been carefully reviewed with the design team and the supplier. Equipment selections and any proposed alternatives can be further reviewed during the shop drawing phase.

The bid submittal due date and bid posting date for this project have been postponed:

BID SUBMITTAL DUE DATE: No later than 3:30 PM (ET), Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to the below address: Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Design and Construction, 3800 Commonwealth Blvd., MS #520, Tallahassee, Florida, 32399-3000, Attention: Logan Lee-Marple, Contracts Specialist, Bureau of Design and Construction, (850) 245-2519.
