The area encompasses 34 acres of land in a low-lying marshy wetland known as “The Intervale”. The landfill was active from 1944-1986, but did not operate between 1950-1961. The disposal grounds were closed through an Assurance of Discontinuance from State of VT Agency of Environmental Conservations Solid Waste in 1988. As part of the remediations plan, leachate collection and methane gas venting system were installed, with the requirements for groundwater monitoring and methane gas monitoring. Groundwater monitoring and reporting ending in 2010, and has no environmental sampling has occurred since that time.
